Since the formation of the NDA government in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed his predecessors as far as the welfare of the Sikh community is concerned, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Monday.

“The amount of work that PM @narendramodi ji has done for the welfare of our Sikh community and to propagate their glorious history across the world has not been done in the last several decades,” Puri said in a post on X.

Listing initiatives in this direction, Puri said it was under the NDA government that the celebration of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, a symbol of bravery of the younger Sahibzadas of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and religion, began. Three ‘saroops’ of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were brought back to India from Taliban-ruled Afghanistan while Sikhs persecuted in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh were given citizenship under the CAA.

In addition to a relief package of `5 lakh each to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, major culprits of the incident were sent behind bars even as the Modi government abolished the black list of Sikhs made after Operation Blue Star. He also said the Kartarpur Sahib corridor was opened after more than 70 years and Sikhs living in J&K were given equal rights.
