Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump of harming India and the wider world through their friendship. He said the relationship had hurt ordinary people, raised fuel costs and pushed India away from non-alignment.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge
Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, claiming that their close friendship is harming both India and global stability.
Addressing a gathering, the Congress president said, “Prime Minister Modi is ruining the country, and Trump is ruining the entire world. If one is ruining the country, the other is ruining the world, yet both keep saying, ‘My good friend, my good friend.’”
Kharge alleged that the relationship between Modi and Trump was negatively affecting ordinary people in India. “If both of you are such good friends, you are bringing a bad name to the country, and our people are suffering because of both of you. Had Trump not done this, oil prices would not have risen so much, and diesel and petrol prices would not have increased like this,” he said.
The Congress chief also accused PM Modi of abandoning India’s traditional foreign policy approach because of his ties with the US president.
“PM Modi considers Trump his friend, and because of that, he has abandoned our neutral policy, or what used to be our foreign policy. We were neutral. During the time of Nehruji, our policy of neutrality helped us. Everyone stood with us,” Kharge said.
He further claimed that India’s policy of non-alignment had been discarded under the current government.
“But this policy of non-alignment was discarded, and now Modi goes around every country saying, ‘He is my friend, this one is my friend, that one is my friend.’ By trying to please everyone, he has ultimately landed us in trouble and put a noose around our necks,” Kharge added.
The remarks came as Kharge criticised both PM Modi and Trump, arguing that their friendship had damaged India’s interests and contributed to difficulties faced by the country.
