The mystery surrounding a potential '3 Idiots' sequel continues to deepen as actress Mona Singh becomes the latest original cast member to address the viral rumors. In a new interview on March 17, 2026, Singh who played the iconic role of Mona Sahastrabuddhe clarified that she has not yet been contacted for a follow-up, despite reports suggesting that director Rajkumar Hirani has finalized a script titled '4 Idiots'. While Hirani has confirmed that a "fresh idea" is indeed in the works, lead actors Aamir Khan and R. Madhavan remain tight-lipped, leaving fans to wonder if the film will be made.In a recent interview with Screen, the 'Border 2' actress clarified that she has not been approached for the project so far. Responding to the rumours, she said, “I also heard that, but I thought it must be a rumour because I haven’t gotten any call yet. The call should come. My son should be a footballer by now (laughs),"

Mona Singh played the role of Mona Sahastrabuddhe in the 2009 blockbuster. Her character was the elder daughter of Virus, portrayed by Boman Irani, and the sister of Pia, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Before Mona Singh’s reaction, both Aamir Khan and R Madhavan had addressed the sequel rumours. The actors reportedly denied being approached for the project. Despite the buzz, there has been no official confirmation from the makers regarding casting or production details.
This has left fans waiting for clarity on whether the original cast will reunite.
Reports claim script is already locked
Earlier reports suggested that Rajkumar Hirani has finalised the script for the sequel.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, the film is expected to go on floors in 2026. The report claimed that the sequel would bring back the original cast, including Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. It also stated, “The script has been locked, and the team is extremely excited for it. They feel the magic of the first film has returned, and is as funny, as emotional, and as meaningful as the first part," However, with key actors denying involvement, the situation remains unclear.Sequel expected to continue story after 15 years of the sequel moves forward, it is expected to pick up from where the original story ended. Reports suggest the narrative will be set around 15 years after the events of the first film. The original movie followed the journey of three friends navigating life at an engineering college and beyond. Even years after its release, it continues to be widely loved by audiences.
The comedy film received immense critical and commercial success upon its release in 2009 and won multiple honours, including awards at the 57th National Film Awards.The film starred Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in lead roles.
