Prayagraj: Paying rich tributes to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday the Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder raised his voice when the Jawaharlal Nehru govt acted against India’s integrity.“In independent India, while Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru became Prime Minister, the cabinet included ministers from various parties. Mookerjee joined the cabinet representing the Hindu Mahasabha. However, when the Nehru govt began acting against India’s integrity by pursuing a policy of appeasement, Mookerjee voiced his strong opposition. He resigned from his post in the national interest and subsequently became the founding president of the Jan Sangh, laying the foundation for the future BJP.
”Yogi was in Prayagraj to inaugurate Prerna Park at Kali Ghat on the banks of the river Yamuna and unveil statues of Mookerjee, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former VHP international president Ashok Singhal. He said the lives of all three leaders were dedicated to the nation.Addressing a public function, the CM described Mookerjee as a towering nationalist, educationist and freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for India’s unity and integrity.
The CM also hailed Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
for fulfilling Mookerjee’s vision by abrogating

and launched a sharp attack on the Congress over its Kashmir policy.Referring to Mookerjee, Yogi said he made the ultimate sacrifice after declaring that “two Prime Ministers, two Constitutions and two flags cannot coexist in one country.” He said Mookerjee dedicated his life to India’s nationalism, unity and integrity. The CM said Mookerjee was a visionary who dreamt of an undivided India.
When the British conspired to hand over Bengal to Pakistan, Mookerjee strongly opposed the move and declared that Bengal would not be allowed to become part of Pakistan. Yogi said that as the country celebrates Mukherjee’s 125th birth anniversary, the BJP’s lotus has also bloomed in West Bengal.“The lotus represents not merely the attainment of power but also a promise of prosperity, good governance, and the safety of every youth, sister and daughter,” he said.Yogi said PM Modi had fulfilled Mookerjee’s vision by abrogating Article 370. “While the Congress and National Conference desired separate laws, a separate legislature and a separate flag for Kashmir, PM Modi’s leadership shattered those aspirations and fulfilled Mookerjee’s vision. Honouring the pledges of one’s predecessors is the true expression of gratitude towards them.”Paying tribute to Vajpayee, Yogi said the former PM established a model of political stability, integrity and good governance in independent India.
“He served as an MP, Union minister and Prime Minister for over six decades, and not a single stain could be found on his public life. He presented an exemplary model of good governance for villages, farmers, youth and the poor,” the CM said. The CM also paid tributes to Singhal, saying his life was devoted to the nation and Sanatan Dharm. “India’s soul resides in Sanatan Dharm, and Lord Ram is the foundation of that soul.
Ram is synonymous with the nation, and the name of Ram binds India together from north to south,” he said.Yogi said today’s Ayodhya and the grand Ram Mandir stand on the foundation laid by Singhal.Calling the Ram Janmabhoomi movement the country’s biggest cultural movement since Independence, he said: “Singhalji undertook the pioneering task of bringing seers onto a single platform and, by uniting them and leveraging the strength of the Sangh Parivar, brought everyone together.”Recalling the movement of the 1990s, he added: “In the 1990s, a single slogan echoed everywhere: ‘Ramlala, we shall come; we shall build the temple right there.’”Yogi noted that Singhal, an engineering graduate from Banaras Hindu University, could have pursued a successful career but instead dedicated his life to the nation and Sanatan Dharm. He also said Singhal donated his ancestral property for the welfare of the poor and tribal communities.Highlighting Prime Minister Modi’s mantra that development must go hand in hand with preserving heritage, Yogi said no place understands the importance of heritage better than Prayagraj.“Whenever the topic of equality arises, one should visit Prayagraj, where people from every caste, language and region take a holy dip together in the Triveni Sangam without discrimination,” he said. The CM also spoke about Prayagraj’s mythological significance, saying Sage Bharadwaj performed penance there and that Lord Ram sought his blessings before returning to Ayodhya after completing his 14-year exile. He said the double-engine govt had renovated Sage Bharadwaj’s temple, statue and ashram while also opening access to Nagvasuki, Patalpuri, Saraswati Koop and the Akshayavat route. He credited the government for successfully organising the grand Maha Kumbh.Expressing gratitude to the people of Prayagraj, Yogi said that despite the arrival of nearly 66 crore devotees during the Maha Kumbh, residents did not complain and instead felt proud that people from across the world had come to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. The CM also highlighted the city’s ongoing development, saying a National Law University named after Dr Rajendra Prasad is nearing completion and classes have already begun. He announced that a new bridge over the Ganga would be built with an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore—the first such bridge project in Uttar Pradesh to receive funding of that scale. He added that connectivity is also being strengthened through new four-lane roads and remarked that electing capable public representatives leads to better development outcomes.Yogi thanked the mayor and other public representatives for the successful management of the Maha Kumbh and praised the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation’s efforts. Referring to Shivalik Park, he said replicas of the 12 Jyotirlingas had been developed under the PPP model and attracted such a large number of visitors during the Maha Kumbh that the revenue generated exceeded the project’s investment.
