Bhopal: A late-night altercation at the MLA Rest House in Arera Hills has triggered a controversy after the son of a Morena MLA accused a group of youths of assaulting him and attempting to extort money, while the family of the accused alleged one-sided police action.Arera Hills police registered a case of assault and extortion against four persons on the complaint of Devaraj Singh Gurjar, 29, son of Morena MLA Dinesh Gurjar. Five were also booked under preventive sections and sent to jail.According to Arera Hills SHO Sunil Gurjar, Devaraj, who resides with his family at the MLA Rest House in Malviya Nagar, was walking in the balcony around 12.30 am on Wednesday when he noticed eight to nine youths allegedly consuming liquor and creating a disturbance within the campus.When he asked them to leave, the youths allegedly became aggressive, abused him and attempted to enter the MLA Rest House through the staircase. Police said Devaraj tried to stop them, following which the group allegedly demanded money from him to buy liquor.When he refused, they allegedly manhandled him and attempted to snatch his belongings. Hearing the commotion, Devaraj’s friends, Harsh Verma and Saurabh Bakoria, who were also staying at the MLA Rest House, intervened.
The accused allegedly threatened Devaraj with dire consequences before fleeing the spot.Based on his complaint, police identified the accused and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.The incident, however, took a turn on Thursday after a video purportedly featuring the mother of the accused youths surfaced on social media. In the video, she alleged that her two sons were detained and booked by police while no action was taken against the MLA’s son despite his alleged involvement in the clash.She claimed that Devaraj and his associates had assaulted and injured her sons and accused police of acting in a biased manner.
