In a sorrowful turn of events, Hazaribag district faced a devastating Monday, marked by the loss of four individuals in various road mishaps. A tragic chain of incidents involving a parked truck, a careless hit-and-run, and a severe head-on collision claimed the lives of a couple, an IAF jawan, and another man.
Hazaribag: Four people, including two members of a family and an Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan, were killed in three separate road accidents in Hazaribag district on Monday, raising concerns over highway safety, overspeeding and unregulated movement of heavy vehicles in the district.A woman and her son were killed after their car rammed into a stationary truck parked along the roadside in the district on Monday.The incident happened within the limits of the Mufassil police station. The deceased, identified as Vidya Devi, 55, and her son Chandan Kumar, 29, died on the spot, while two others, Mahavir Prasad, 62, and Ankita Devi, 25, sustained critical injuries and were referred to Rims, Ranchi.The officer-in-charge (OC) of the Mufassil police station, Roshan Kumar, said, “Overspeeding or driver fatigue appears to be the likely cause.
We have seized the vehicles and initiated an investigation.”Ankita is Chandan's wife, while Mahavir is his father.In another accident, a 40-year-old man, identified as Suresh Ravidas, died after an unidentified vehicle hit his scooter near Teliyabat on NH-522 within the limits of Tatijharia police station in Hazaribag. A resident of Hurlung village, he was on his way to Hazaribag to buy medicines when the accident occurred.
Tatijharia OC Indrajit Kumar said the impact threw him off the scooter, killing him on the spot.“We have registered a case and are trying to identify the vehicle involved,” he said.In the third incident, a 34-year-old IAF personnel, Deepak Kumar, died after his bike collided head-on with a bus near Mukundganj, about 4 km from Hazaribag city. The incident happened around 6 am on Monday. He was on his way to meet a friend on his motorcycle when a bus coming from Ranchi (opposite side) rammed into his bike. “He recently came home on leave and was supposed to return to Hyderabad next month,” his elder brother Anand Kumar said.The OC of Mufassil police station, Roshan Kumar, said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of negligent driving. The bus has been seized and an investigation has been initiated.”
