Mother, toddler die in suspected suicide pact in Kurnool

Tirupati: A woman and her two-year-old daughter died after allegedly consuming pesticide in a suspected suicide pact at Gulyam village in Alur mandal of Kurnool district on Friday. The woman’s live-in partner, who also consumed the substance, is undergoing treatment at a government hospital and remains in critical condition.The deceased were identified as Neelavathi and her daughter, both residents of Sanganakallu village in Ballari district of Karnataka.According to police, Neelavathi, her daughter and her partner Mahesh had travelled to Gulyam village to offer prayers at the Gadilingeswara Swamy temple. After visiting the temple, the trio reportedly went into an agricultural field located behind the temple premises, where they consumed a pesticide.Preliminary investigation suggests that the child may have been administered the substance before the two adults consumed it. The pesticide is believed to have acted quickly, leading to the deaths of the woman and the child at the spot.Mahesh was later found in an unconscious state. Locals alerted authorities, following which he was shifted to the Adoni government hospital, where doctors are trying to stabilise him.

The bodies were shifted to the Alur government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the reasons and circumstances that led to the incident.Officials said further details would emerge after recording statements and examining evidence.
