Motorists wonder if Nashik Road flyover will be asphalted before monsoon

Nashik Road flyover scraped for asphalt work

Nashik: Motorists, who frequently use the Nashik Road flyover, are growing anxious over whether the ongoing asphalting work will be completed before the monsoon sets in.Over the past month, the contracted road construction company has only scraped the surface of the road, leaving the actual asphalting untouched.

Many daily commuters fear that if the work is not expedited before the rainfall arrives, they will be forced to navigate the rugged, scraped surface until the monsoon ends in Sept. The nearly one-kilometre-long flyover witnesses a heavy and continuous flow of traffic throughout the day and even late at night. It serves as a vital road connecting Nashik city to major destinations such as Sinnar, Shirdi and Pune.Furthermore, rapid urbanisation over the past decade has seen numerous residential colonies sprout up around Sinnar Phata, while neighbouring areas like Shinde and Palse continue to develop fast.

Consequently, residents of these expanding suburbs rely heavily on the flyover for their routine daily travel.Milind Jadhav, a resident of Nashik Road, highlighted the recurring grievance. “The flyover remains in poor shape throughout the year, but its condition deteriorates during the monsoon, making it incredibly hazardous for the motorists. While we expected the fresh asphalting to be completed before the monsoon, the authorities have only scraped certain patches and left them.

Commuting on this uneven surface will be a total nightmare, especially for two-wheeler riders,” Jadhav said. When contacted, a senior official from the Nashik Municipal Corporation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, acknowledged the delay and cited shortage of asphalt as the reason.“The asphalt supply issue has now been resolved. The work of relaying asphalt on the scraped stretches of the flyover will be taken up as early as possible,” the official assured.
