MP 3rd highest in ragging across country, Bhopal’s RGPV among top 10 most-complained about campuses

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh and state-run Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) in Bhopal and Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar have featured prominently in a recently released nationwide report on ragging complaints filed on national anti-ragging portal between April 1, 2022, and February 28, 2026.The report shows Madhya Pradesh ranked third among states with 392 recorded complaints while RGPV’s University Institute of Technology and Sagar’s Bundelkhand Medical College featured among the country’s most-complained-about campuses, registering 20 & 17 separate grievances.Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of complaints (747), followed by West Bengal (442), Madhya Pradesh (392), Bihar (375) and Maharashtra (272).The top three slots on the most-complained-about campuses were bagged by Uttar Pradesh too. Banaras Hindu University led the list with 57 complaints, followed by the University of Lucknow (44) and the University of Allahabad (32).Other institutions in the top ten included Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, WB, and Govt Polytechnic College Darbhanga (28 each); MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur, and Guwahati University (24 each); and Bundelkhand Medical College & Hospital and the University of Burdwan (17 each).

RGPV, with 20 complaints, was also among the top ten.Nationwide, 4,364 complainants filed ragging-related reports during the nearly four-year period. Men accounted for 82.1% of complainants and women 17.9%, the data shows.Officials in Madhya Pradesh said complaints against institutions covered a wide range of issues and affected colleges across disciplines. Allegations included irregularities in admissions, examination conduct, faculty recruitment and student services.

Senior academics attributed the high volume of grievances partly to the rapid expansion of professional colleges in the state and uneven regulatory oversight.Campus sources at RGPV described a pattern of procedural and administrative disputes. Students and parents raised concerns about alleged lapses in exam administration, lack of transparency in evaluation and delays in issuing results and certificates.University authorities confirmed receipt of multiple complaints, adding that many had been resolved following internal inquiries. They said they would cooperate with investigations into more serious allegations and were reviewing administrative procedures to speed up transparent resolution of pending cases.State tallies reflected both student population size and institutional visibility, analysts said.Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have vowed to tighten oversight and strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms. Officials said planned reforms will focus on faster processing of cases and clearer administrative protocols. For students and parents in the state, the immediate demand is practical: faster, fairer processes that restore confidence in institutions such as RGPV. With scrutiny intensifying, state and university officials face pressure to turn assurances into measurable improvements in transparency and accountability.
