BHOPAL: The MP govt approved the establishment of a dedicated endocrinology department at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, making it the first govt medical college in the state to offer this specialty, here on Tuesday.Welcoming the move, Hamidia Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Suneet Tandon said, “Endocrinology is the need of the hour as non-communicable diseases are on the rise. The dedicated endocrinology department could lead to DM seats in the specialty.”Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh are witnessing a significant rise in diabetes cases, driven by lifestyle changes and urbanisation. The growing burden underscores an urgent need for specialised care and public health interventions to manage non-communicable diseases.
