MP meets CM, urges him to drop stadium plan on KSIC factory land

Amid growing opposition to the State government’s move to construct a stadium on the premises of the KSIC Filature Factory at T. Narasipur, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and urged him to save the factory by dropping the proposed project.

“Mysuru continues to be renowned for its silk sarees, and the KSIC silk factory unit at T. Narasipura serves as a lifeline for hundreds of workers,” the MP said.

Mr. Wadiyar met the Chief Minister on Wednesday night regarding the KSIC factory issue and later issued a press statement. The meeting comes at a time when workers have launched a strike, demanding that the factory should not be shut down.

“It is learnt that 6 acres and 8 guntas of land within the KSIC Filature factory premises have been handed over to the Youth and Sports Department for the construction of a stadium. If the stadium is built, it would adversely affect the livelihood of workers and silk farmers. Therefore, the Chief Minister must reconsider the decision,” he said.

Mr. Wadiyar pointed out that there are more than 500 teak and sandalwood trees within the factory campus, and these are likely to be cut down if the stadium project proceeds. He stressed the need to preserve the historic unit and protect the greenery within the premises.

The MP urged the government to identify alternative land at Korlalli or any other government site for the stadium project.

On airport expansion

Mr. Wadiyar also requested the Chief Minister to expedite the Mysuru airport expansion and the land acquisition process.

Expressing confidence that the land acquisition and related procedures are nearly complete, he stated that once confirmation is received, he will press the Centre to ensure the remaining works are completed at the earliest.

Minister in-charge of Mysuru district H. C. Mahadevappa, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MLC, advocate and BJP leader Arun Kumar, KEA Chairman Ayub Khan and others were present.
