MP seeks weekly reports of 5 bridge works

Trichy MP Durai Vaiko review key bridge works underway in Trichy city

Trichy: Trichy MP Durai Vaiko on Wednesday conducted review meetings involving various state and central agencies to expedite five bridge projects underway in various parts of the city.

Stating that inter-departmental communication lapses and administrative delays should not delay the revised deadlines set to complete the works, the MP told the agencies to submit weekly status reports to his office in the wake of multiple bridge closures and subsequent traffic diversions. The MP was informed that Maris RoB can be completed by Sept, and Aristo RoB work involving railways and state highways by Dec.

The bow string girder, a crucial component of Aristo RoB to bypass railway tracks, is yet to be positioned across the tracks. The town station RoB which links EB road with Odathurai road by eliminating a railway level crossing is expected to be completed by Aug 2027. “Railways and state highways departments were asked to take up parallel works, to expedite completion of the new bridge.

Weekly reports will scrutinize the work progress, thereby eliminating unwanted delays in opening the bridges,” the MP told TOI.

Stakeholders were informed that they can meet anytime to coordinate and speed up works. Two other bridges, reconstruction of old Cauvery bridge on Trichy-Chennai NH by NHAI, and the new Koraiyar bridge near Panjapur being built by state highways, were reviewed. New Koraiyar bridge is likely to be completed by Dec 2026. “NHAI has agreed to complete the old Cauvery bridge work by Sept 2026. If northern and southern ring roads proposed by previous govts were completed on time, inconveniences for the public could have been avoided by diverting vehicles through ring roads.

I will expedite the pending ring road proposals,” the MP said.Durai also reviewed the status of VuPs (underpasses) at Sanjeevi Nagar, Kollidam Y road, Maruti Nagar junctions, and an elevated rotary at G Corner, all on Trichy-Chennai NH. Tenders floated by NHAI for the Rs245 crore work are in advanced stage, and works are likely to commence by Sept.
