Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) this month, chief minister Mohan Yadav announced on Monday while laying the foundation stone for the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Smart Industrial Park at Satgarhi in Bhopal.
He also announced that the entire Satgarhi area, including the proposed convention and exhibition centre, would be named after the Jana Sangh founder.Earlier in the day, Yadav garlanded the statue of Dr Mookerjee at Lalghati on the latter’s birth anniversary.“Madhya Pradesh is also joining the ranks of those proud states. Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee had pointed out the shortcomings in the Constitution at the time of Independence and had said that there should be ‘One Nation, One Flag, One Head, One Constitution’.
This month, Madhya Pradesh is moving towards a Common Civil Code by bringing the Uniform Civil Code. Today, our state is going to do everything that is necessary for the nation,” he said. The proposed UCC legislation is expected to be introduced during the assembly’s monsoon session from July 20 to 24. Once passed, Madhya Pradesh will become the fourth state after Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam to implement a Uniform Civil Code.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav said investment proposals worth around Rs 10 lakh crore received during the last Global Investors Summit (GIS) had already translated into projects on the ground out of total investment intents of Rs 30 lakh crore.“Because of the state govt’s commitment, investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore out of the Rs 30 lakh crore proposals received at the GIS have already materialised on the ground.
For the first time, Madhya Pradesh has achieved the milestone of translating 30% of investment commitments into projects,” he said. The CM said the state had signed investment MoUs worth Rs 86,000 crore since January during the state’s Farmer Welfare Year, which would generate thousands of jobs. “The Satgarhi Smart Industrial Park alone will create employment opportunities for more than 15,000 people,” he said.Yadav said the industrial areas being developed in the state would also benefit farmers.“The industrial areas coming up in Madhya Pradesh will open new avenues of prosperity for our farmers. They will create employment for the youth. The garment industry will benefit cotton growers. Our govt is working to connect farms with factories and industries with markets,” he said.He said Madhya Pradesh had also attracted Rs 10,000 crore in foreign investment from countries including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada and South Korea. The Satgarhi project is being developed over a 25-acre parcel within a larger 172-acre government land bank and will house the state’s largest convention and exhibition centre with a planned capacity of 10,000 to 15,000 people, along with a smart industrial township and an IT park. The project is expected to generate more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs and strengthen Bhopal’s position as a hub for investment, industry and business events.
