 Two men held for drug trafficking; 12.2g MD worth Rs 1.2 lakh seized

INDORE: Khajrana police have arrested two men for trafficking the banned synthetic drug MD and seized 12.2 grams of the substance, worth more than Rs 1.2 lakh, along with a scooter.

The arrests form part of a sustained crackdown on narcotics under directives from senior officers to curb crime in the city.Acting on confidential information, a team led by Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Sendhav intensified surveillance of suspected drug peddlers. During the operation, the two men were spotted near Waghela Garden standing beside a scooter. On seeing the police, they attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.

A search revealed packets of MD drugs in their possession.The accused were identified as 18-year-old Alfez Ansari, a resident of Azad Nagar and a garment shop worker who studied up to Class 10, and 23-year-old Mohammad Jafar Shah, an illiterate rickshaw driver from the same locality. Both confessed to being addicted to drugs and said they engaged in the illegal trade to sustain their habit and earn quick money.Police registered a case under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act at Khajrana police station and placed the accused under investigation. Officials said further interrogation during police remand will focus on identifying the source of the contraband and the wider network of traffickers.
