“Mujhse apradh ho gaya…Galti ho gayi (I committed a crime, a mistake)," said the 19-year-old house helper who allegedly raped and murdered the IRS officer’s daughter in Delhi. The statement came as a Delhi court granted police four days of custodial interrogation.
The Police have identified the accused as Rahul Meena, a former domestic worker at the victim’s home.
According to investigators, he had worked with the family for several months and was familiar with the house and the family’s routine.
Officials said Meena entered the house using a spare key on Wednesday morning when the victim’s parents had stepped out. He allegedly went directly to a room where the woman was present and attacked her. The victim, an IIT graduate preparing for civil services, was later found dead with multiple injuries.
“The investigation suggests that the accused raped the victim while she was still unconscious. He then dragged her down the stairs to another room where a locker was kept, and attempted to open the biometric lock using her fingerprint, but it did not open," a police official said.
After the attack, Meena is believed to have broken open the locker, taken valuables, changed his clothes, and fled before the parents returned. CCTV footage shows he was inside the house for about 30 minutes.
Police arrested him later from a hotel in Dwarka. During interrogation, he reportedly changed his version of events multiple times. Investigators are now recreating the sequence of events and collecting forensic evidence.
The case took a more serious turn when police in Rajasthan’s Alwar linked Meena to another alleged rape that took place just hours before the Delhi incident. A separate investigation is underway in that case.
Officials said efforts are ongoing to recover stolen items and strengthen the case.
