A video of of multi-vehicle crash on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday has surfaced, showing horrific turn of events.

Mumbai-Pune expressway accident caught on cam

A video of the fatal multi-vehicle crash that took place on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday has surfaced, showing the sequence of events that led to a pile-up of over 20 vehicles, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to 18 other people.

The video was recorded on the dashcam in a car that was running just behind the said container trailer. The horrific video shows the truck overtaking the car and another truck from the right, and then as it tried to overtake the cars in front from the left, it crashed into the railings of the road, losing control and smashing into the vehicles in front.

The incident took place after the brakes of the trailer allegedly failed near Adoshi tunnel under Khopoli police station limits in Khalapur taluka in Raigad district of Maharashtra.

Several cars, including the luxury ones such as BMW and Mercedes, were damaged in the incident.

“The accident happened because the brakes failed. The driver was not drunk. The damage was serious because the brakes gave out while he was driving downhill," the police said. The driver of the trailer was arrested.

The police registered a case on the incident and are investigating the mechanical failure that led to the crash.

17 out of the 19 injured ones were rushed to MGM Hospital, Kamothe, while one was taken to a private hospital.

“The driver of the container trailer truck lost control of the vehicle after brake failure. It hit at least 20 vehicles, including luxury cars like BMW and Mercedes, resulting in serious injuries to 19 people. Of these, a woman died while undergoing treatment," an official told news agency PTI.
