The college and school students in Mumbai have collected two tonnes of e-waste as a part of E-Waste collection drive led by DotCom Club of Jai Hind College in Mumbai.

As many as eight schools, five colleges, and 18 societies participated in the initiatives. The participants include students from St. Joseph school, Christ Church, St. Xavier college, Wilson college, Saboo Siddique college, and Anjuman college.

“Over 2,000 kilograms (2 tons) of e-waste was collected with the collective effort of students, schools, colleges, societies, companies, and individuals alike. All the e-waste collected was handed over to GreenIndia Recycling Company, for safe and certified e-waste management,” said a press statement issued by Jai Hind college.

E-waste means discarded electrical or electronic devices, including old phones, laptops, chargers, batteries, and more, which is often overlooked, posing serious risks to both human health and the environment, releasing hazardous materials into the soil, air, and water.

The initiative was held on July 30 and 31 by the Departments of B.Sc. IT, B.Voc. SD, and M.Sc. BDA of Jai Hind College, with aim to raise awareness concerning the proper disposal of electronic waste disposal.
