Mumbai: A sessions court denied bail to a 36-year-old Andheri man arrested in connection with the illegal possession and attempted sale of elephant tusks. Observing that despite the best efforts of govts across the world, wildlife poaching is still growing and some endangered species are on the verge of extinction, therefore, offences under the Wildlife Protection Act need to be viewed seriously. The accused, Sandeep Bidlaan, was taken into custody by the Chembur police following a raid at a local lodging house where two tusks, weighing 11 kg and 20.6 kg, were recovered. The prosecution successfully argued that the accused acted in collusion with others to trade in endangered wildlife products.
