Mumbai Rains Live Updates: Heavy monsoon rains continued to batter Maharashtra on Monday, throwing public life out of gear and disrupting transport across the state. Heavy rain showers triggered flooding and landslides in several regions, posing challenges to commuters and travellers.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange alert’ for Mumbai, warning of heavy rains. According to the weather body, Mumbai is likely to receive its average rainfall for the entire month within the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, authorities restored vehicular movement on the Pune–Mumbai Connecting Link Road after debris was cleared off the road, according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). In view of the relentless downpour –– triggering landslides ––  traffic on both the Pune–Mumbai Expressway and the old Pune–Mumbai highway was suspended on Monday.

“Traffic has resumed on the Pune–Mumbai Connecting Link Road. Vehicular movement has been restored after completion of extensive safety operations”, said the MSRDC in a post on ‘X’.

The torrential rains have also triggered severe waterlogging and traffic congestion across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Mumbai Rains Claim Several Lives

The inclement weather in Mumbai has also claimed several lives. A four-storey building collapsed in Mankhurd, killing six people. Over 200 incidents related to tree-fall were reported across the city, resulting in two additional casualties.

Over the five days, Mumbai has seen exceptionally heavy rainfall, with Colaba ––  a region in old Mumbai –– already exceeding its monthly average of 744.2 mm. The Santacruz observatory has reported 805.6 mm of rain, which accounts to nearly 94 per cent of its average July rainfall.
