The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai city for 48 hours. According to the weather agency, heavy rainfall is expected throughout the day, accompanied by cloudy skies. On Tuesday, the city recorded 45 mm of rain during the day.

According to the reports, there is a possibility of light to moderate rains with cloudy weather in the Konkan coast, Mumbai metropolitan, and nearby suburbs on July 2.

The weather is cloudy since morning and there will be heavy rain after noon. Winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour in these areas and, therefore, the citizens are advised to take appropriate precautions, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Notably, Thane and Navi Mumbai received heavy rains throughout the day on Tuesday. Belapur, Vashi and Nerul areas in Navi Mumbai were even facing waterlogging issues.

Heavy Rainfall Across India: IMD

IMD on Tuesday said very heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan over the next six to seven days, adding that the monsoon will remain active in many parts of northwest, central and east India during this period.

Heavy rain is also likely in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand. Some days may see heavy showers in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Northeast India is likely to get heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places during this period.

The weather department on Monday predicted above-normal rainfall in the country in July and asked authorities and people in central India, Uttarakhand and Haryana to stay alert due to the risk of flooding.

It said rainfall is likely to be below normal in large parts of the northeast, many areas of eastern India and extreme southern peninsular India.
