A shocking case of negligence surfaced at the district hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Basti, when attendants caught a fake doctor treating patients in the emergency ward.

According to eyewitnesses, a man identified as Raj Kumar entered the ward dressed like a doctor, wearing a mask and a stethoscope. Introducing himself as a senior doctor, he began attending to patients, including those in critical condition. Suspicion arose when the family of a seriously ill patient asked him to prescribe medicines. Instead of responding, he said he would “ask the warden and tell,” which raised doubts about his credentials.

Soon, attendants and relatives confronted him and confirmed he was an impostor. He was caught by the public and handed over to the police.

The incident came to light after a man brought his wife to the hospital in a critical condition. The family alleged that she was left untreated for nearly two hours and later died. During this time, the fake doctor was found moving around in the emergency ward posing as medical staff.

District Hospital SIC Dr Khalid Rizwan confirmed the incident and said, “Information was received that an unknown person was present in the ward posing as a doctor. People caught him and handed him over to the police. An FIR is being lodged on the basis of a written complaint.”

On the allegation of negligence, Dr Rizwan clarified that the deceased patient was already in a serious condition.

“She had shortness of breath and her oxygen level had dropped critically. She was given proper treatment, but despite efforts, she passed away,” he said.
