To boost monsoon tourism in the region, the fourth edition of the “Rain 40” football penalty shootout tournament will be held at the Munnar High Altitude Stadium on August 9. The event, scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m., will be organised by Greens Munnar. According to Saju Alakkappally, chairman of the organising committee, 32 teams will participate in the event — 16 from Idukki district and the rest from other districts.

Cash prizes

The tournament champions will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000 and a trophy. Teams finishing second, third, and fourth will be awarded ₹25,000, ₹15,000, ₹10,000, and ₹5,000 respectively, along with trophies.

The tournament is being conducted in association with the KDHP Company, Kochi Medical Trust Hospital, Munnar Lions Club, Munnar Destination Makers, HRMA Munnar, and various other local organisations.

Devikulam MLA F. Raja officially unveiled the logo for the tournament on Wednesday. Ahead of the sporting event, an anti-drug rally will be held in Munnar in solidarity with the State government’s ongoing “Operation Toofan” anti-narcotics initiative.
