Murder accused who escaped from AIIMS Raipur during treatment nabbed on train by RPF at Durg
RAIPUR: A 26-year-old murder accused, who escaped from police custody at AIIMS Raipur, was arrested by a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Durg railway station on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Karan Porte alias Karan, a resident of Mandir Hasaud, Raipur, had fled from custody after being brought to AIIMS Raipur from Raipur Jail on Saturday.Police initially suspected that the accused was fleeing on the Howrah-Mumbai Gitanjali Express (12860). A search was conducted at Gondia station, but he was not found. CCTV footage later revealed that he had deboarded the Gitanjali Express and boarded the Cherlapalli-Raxaul Express (07051), heading back towards Durg.An alert was issued to the RPF post at Durg, where a team led by the post in-charge boarded the train and apprehended the accused in a general coach.During questioning, Porte admitted his escape and confirmed that he had been taken to AIIMS Raipur for treatment. His identity was later verified by Mandir Hasaud police, who confirmed that he was an accused in a murder case registered under Sections 302 and 307 of the IPC and had been lodged in Raipur Jail.
