Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asserted that rejuvenation of Musi riverfront is the permanent solution to flooding and water logging witnessed during heavy rains in several areas of the GHMC area.

He directed the officials concerned to take steps to ensure that the flood water in the core urban region is discharged into Musi riverfront. Steps should be taken to ensure that all tanks and nalas are connected to Musi river so that excess water is discharged into it.

The Chief Minister gave the instructions during a meeting with senior officials in view of reports on water logging due to heavy rain on Thursday. Mr. Revanth Reddy inquired with the officials about the steps being taken to mitigate the problems due to heavy rain. Officials explained to the Chief Minister that obstructions to free flow of water were resulting in the situation.

He favoured permanent steps for effectively managing flood waters in the core urban region. Accordingly, officials concerned were directed to expedite works on rejuvenation of tanks and widening of nalas so that rain water was diverted to them and from there to Musi river.

The Chief Minister said rejuvenation of Musi river was the only solution to avoid recurrence of the situation and directed the officials to prepare plans in that direction. Rejuvenation of Musi would enable effective management of flood water as well checking traffic related problems in the GHMC limits.
