Mussoorie: Ahead of the peak tourist season, Mall Road has been cleared of encroachments, with vendors relocated and parking restricted. Barriers have been installed to stop vehicles, and benches placed for visitors.Over 200 vendors were shifted to designated vending zones at Company Garden, Mussoorie Lake Hill, and Picture Palace–Landour Road by the district administration and Mussoorie Municipal Council (MMC).“We faced protests but relocated vendors as per the Street Vendors Act, 2014,” said SDM Rahul Anand.“From May 1, traffic on Mall Road will be restricted between 5 pm and 10.30 pm, with 20 personnel deployed to enforce the rule,” said MMC chairperson Meera Saklani, adding locals, the elderly and school vans will get some relaxation.Visitors welcomed the changes. “I visit Mussoorie often, and was earlier put off by encroachments. This time, the walk was pleasant and the benches were useful,” said Navneet Pathak from Delhi.Traders expressed cautious support, noting the improvements could boost tourism but urged authorities to safeguard local business interests.
