Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday launched a sharp attack on actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh over his film Satluj, alleging that it presented “100 per cent misleading" facts and suggesting that the actor may have come under “Khalistani influence".

“I have lost all respect for Diljit Dosanjh. He must have come under some Khalistani influence for him to agree to do this movie," Bittu said.

The Union minister also questioned the circumstances surrounding the film’s release, claiming that it had been released “in a rush".

“They also released the movie in a rush. I don’t think I can respect him anymore. The facts in the movie are 100 per cent misleading," he said.

Satluj, starring Dosanjh, has triggered a political controversy over its portrayal of events linked to Punjab’s period of militancy. The film was recently removed from the Zee5 streaming platform amid the row, though Bittu has said the central government had no role in the platform’s decision.

Bittu further alleged that the film presented a distorted account of events surrounding Operation Blue Star and the subsequent assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

He said the film sought to suggest that Gandhi was assassinated because of Operation Blue Star, while failing to present what he described as the complete history of violence and the suffering of innocent people during that period.

The minister also appealed to the Sri Akal Takht Sahib ahead of an ardas scheduled for Tuesday, urging it to remember all innocent people who lost their lives.

“I appeal to the Sri Akal Takht Sahib, which is going to hold the ardas tomorrow, that it should also perform the ardas for all the innocents," Bittu said.
