Patna: The body of a woman was exhumed from a cemetery in Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday and sent for postmortem after her family alleged that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws.
The deceased was identified as Rizwana Khatoon, wife of Mohammad Rizwan, a resident of an area under Kudhni police station.According to the complaint filed by her maternal family, Rizwana was allegedly assaulted by her husband and other family members during a domestic dispute on the night of July 2. The family claimed that she succumbed to her injuries and her body was buried in a local graveyard on July 3.After receiving a written complaint from the deceased’s maternal family, the administration exhumed the body in the presence of Kudhni circle officer Neelam Kumari, acting as the magistrate, and local police officials.
Animesh Chandra Gyani, SDPO-II (West), who was also at the spot, said the body was sent to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for the postmortem.The SDPO said Rizwana’s brother came to meet her on the afternoon of July 2 and returned to his home in Narauli in the evening. “A few hours later, he received information that his sister had fallen ill. When he, along with his two brothers, went to Rizwana’s in-laws’ place, they found her dead.
The police were also called, but at that time, the family refused to file any complaint. On July 6, the police received a complaint from the victim’s family, after which an FIR was lodged,” he said.The family has accused Rizwana’s husband and several of his relatives of murder and demanded their immediate arrest, along with a fair and impartial investigation.Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report is received. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, while the investigation into the case is continuing.
