A national-level athletics coach, Sandeep, from Haryana, has been handed a provisional suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency on Wednesday for trafficking or attempted trafficking of prohibited substances.

The NADA stated that Sandeep, a middle and long-distance running coach, was guilty of supplying drugs to track and field athletes. Basanti Kumari, Sanjana Singh, Arya Choudhary and Himanshu Rathi were some of the athletes who were also suspended.

Previously, NADA had sanctioned four coaches for being complicit in doping offences. Sandeep’s suspension marked the first time a coach has been accused of drug trafficking, as the four coaches sanctioned earlier Karamveer Singh, Rakesh, Ramesh Nagapuri and Sandhya Rajesh Bahrekar were accused of being complicit.
