SP MP abuses PM Modi: Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi stoked a massive row on Monday after he targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and used derogatory remarks against him.

While speaking to reporters over PM Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and adopt austerity measures amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, the Mahoba MP lashed out at the Prime Minister and dubbed him as the most anti-national person of the country.

“He is such a scoundrel and an anti-national person. There has never been a Prime Minister like him and there will never be a Prime Minister like him in the coming governments," he said.

BJP Hits Back

The BJP soon hit back at the Samajwadi Party leader, with party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla saying that such statements reflect the party’s “political culture".

“Samajwadi Party has proven once again that it is not about ‘mohabbat ki dukaan’, it is ‘nafrat ke bhaijaan’ and ‘samvidhaan ka apmaan’," he said.

The BJP leader said that opposition leaders had repeatedly targeted PM Modi personally, including comments about his background, caste and family. He claimed that the Prime Minister had been insulted for coming from an OBC community and for his humble “chaiwala" background.

Poonawalla also accused opposition parties of insulting Sanatan Dharma and constitutional institutions.

“They abuse Sanatan, they abuse constitutional values and they abuse the Prime Minister repeatedly," he said.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that recent electoral defeats had increased frustration among opposition parties, leading to such remarks.

“The people of this country will give a befitting response," he added.

BJP leader Tajinder Bagga also echoed similar sentiments and said that the use of words like “bastard" and “traitor" against the Prime Minister showed the “desperation" of the opposition.

“The opposition is completely desperate, disheartened and defeated, and the public is not accepting any of their accusations. Therefore, all that’s left for the opposition in the end is just abuse and invective," Bagga said.

What PM Modi Said?

Addressing a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad, PM Modi said the Centre was trying to shield citizens from the adverse impact of the West Asia conflict and urged people to participate in what he described as a collective effort for economic resilience.

PM Modi said rising pressure on global supply chains due to the conflict had increased the prices of petrol and fertilisers despite various efforts by the government to tackle the situation.

“That’s why, during the global crisis, keeping the country above all else, we have to take resolutions," the Prime Minister said.

He urged citizens to use metro rail services wherever available, adopt carpooling, increase the use of electric vehicles, use railway services for parcel transport and reduce petrol and diesel consumption.

“We have to save foreign exchange by any means," he said while also calling for postponing foreign travel and gold purchases for one year.

PM Modi further said that the work-from-home systems adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic should be revived wherever possible.
