BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran, on Monday (July 13, 2026), criticised the TVK-led government over the reported attack on school students in Ariyalur district, who demanded the removal of a State-run TASMAC liquor shop near Udayarpalayam.
Expressing shock over the incident, he said the “brutal attack by police personnel” has led to four girl students’ getting admitted to a government hospital at Jayamkondam.
“Will [Chief Minister] Mr. Joseph Vijay, who during his election campaign assured to provide safety for women once he comes to power, give an answer for this incident?” Mr. Nagenthran asked. The incident only exposed that safety of girls in the TVK-led government only remained a propaganda on paper, the BJP leader claimed. He further urged for initiating legal action against police officers over the assault of the students.
“Besides ensuring the injured girl students are provided medical treatment, I urge that the TASMAC shops located near schools and places of worship are closed at once,” Mr. Nagenthran said.
