Fatherhood has had a big impact on me

Actor Naman Shaw, known for romantic roles, admits real-life romance doesn't come easily. Fatherhood, however, has prompted him to be more expressive towards his wife.

Actor Naman Shaw, currently seen as Adit Saxena in the television show Mangal Lakshmi, says romance in real life has never come naturally to him—despite playing romantic leads on screen for years. Known for shows like Kasamh Se, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kairi — Rishta Khatta Meetha, the actor admits his real personality is quite different. Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Naman shares a candid insight. “Valentine’s Day was never something I looked forward to. I’m not naturally a very expressive or romantic person,” he says. However, becoming a father has changed his outlook. “Fatherhood has had a big impact on me. My son encourages me to do things I used to avoid—like writing cards or expressing my feelings to my wife. That change has been quite meaningful.”

The actor, who is currently portraying a layered, grey character—very different from his earlier chocolate boy image—also feels modern celebrations have become performative.

“Social media has amplified these occasions,” he explains. “People respond to the marketing push. I’ve seen couples post happy pictures when they’re actually going through tough times. It’s become more about projecting an image than genuinely connecting.

Naman feels that the essence of relationships often gets lost in the race for online validation. “It’s unfortunate that intimate moments are now about capturing the perfect photo to share, rather than truly enjoying time with the people who matter,” he concludes.
