Bhopal: A 30-year-old biker had a narrow escape after a broadband cable hanging on a pole snapped and got entangled around his neck while he was riding through the TT Nagar area of Bhopal on Tuesday night.
He filed a complaint with TT Nagar police on Wednesday. No FIR was registered in the matter yet.Complainant, Rohit Sarathe, a resident of Kotra Sultanabad, works as a driver. He told TOI that he was travelling from Rangmahal Square towards Roshanpura around 9.30 pm on June 23 when the incident occurred in front of GTB Complex.In his complaint, Sarathe alleged that a loose overhead broadband cable had broken and fallen on the road. As he passed the cable suddenly wrapped tightly around his neck “like a noose”. He said he was wearing a helmet, which protected his face and eyes from serious injury. He immediately stopped his two-wheeler and managed to free himself, averting what he described as a potentially fatal accident. He thenSarathe urged police to identify those responsible for laying and maintaining the cable network and take action against them for allegedly installing cables in an unsafe manner.
He also sought compensation for the injuries and trauma suffered in the incident and requested authorities to remove hazardous cables to prevent similar accidents in future.He then gathered the cable and moved it to one side of the road to prevent it from obstructing traffic and posing a danger to commuters.Sarathe said that several cables have snapped and been left hanging dangerously over roads in different parts of the city, particularly in TT Nagar and other areas witnessing ongoing infrastructure and construction works.
He said the dangling wires pose a serious risk to commuters and motorists, and alleged that timely repairs and safety measures are often not undertaken.He said that he filed with TT Nagar police on Wednesday. The duty officer present had informed him that the matter will be investigated.TT Nagar police are yet to register a case. TT Nagar SHO Gaurav Singh said that the complaint has not reached him yet and he will look into the matter.
