Naseeruddin Shah officially joins Dhanush and Mammootty starrer 'Om: Chapter 1': 'A strong addition'

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has officially joined director Rajkumar Periasamy's upcoming film 'Om'. The makers announced this today. The action drama stars Dhanush and Mammootty in leading roles and has generated considerable anticipation since its announcement.

With Naseeruddin Shah now joining the project, excitement surrounding the film has grown even further.

Production house introduced Naseeruddin Shah with a special post on its official social media handles. The banner also confirmed the film's release date while announcing his addition to the cast. The post read, "A strong addition to the world of #OM. The veteran #NaseeruddinShah on board the mega biggie. Coming to cinemas worldwide on October 16th 2026."

The film is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on October 16, 2026.

Interestingly, the title has been unveiled as Om: Chapter 1, suggesting that the makers may be planning a larger cinematic franchise instead of a standalone film.

'Om: Chapter 1' teaser

The film's title teaser had earlier offered audiences a glimpse into its world. The story appears to revolve around the illegal red sanders trade, with Dhanush portraying a woodcutter caught in the middle of the conflict.

The teaser showcased forest officials confronting labourers involved in illegal logging operations. It also hinted at Dhanush's character stepping forward to protect the workers, setting the stage for an action-packed narrative.

'Om: Chapter 1' cast

Apart from Dhanush and Naseeruddin Shah, the film also features Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a pivotal role. Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela play the female leads in the ambitious project.

The technical crew includes composer Sai Abhyankkar, cinematographer Ezhil Arasu, editor Kalaivanan R and costume designer Kavya Sriram. Earlier, when Mammootty joined the film, the production house shared a heartfelt message welcoming the legendary actor.
