Shafi Sheikh, one of the accused linked to the allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion in the Nashik BPO unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), allegedly proposed to one of the victims.
In her statement to the police, the victim, who was already married, said Sheikh proposed to her by saying, “I really like you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Meanwhile, another accused, Raza Menon, allegedly passed lewd remarks against the woman.
The victim told the police that these advances made her uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Sheikh’s phone has been confiscated by the cops to probe the alleged mental and sexual harassment reported by the complainants.

The police are currently investigating the case by conducting a technical examination. However, the mobile phones of all the accused are yet to be seized. A forensic examination of the devices will be conducted to advance the probe.
A total of seven employees have been arrested in the matter, including Danish Sheikh, Shafi Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi and Asif Aftab Ansari. Nida Khan, a Process Associate, has also been named as an accused and is currently missing.
Sheikh, who has been associated with the firm for several years as a business process analyst, had earlier alleged before a court on Thursday that he was assaulted in jail by other inmates. As per reports, he has now sought police protection within the jail. The judge remanded him and Raza Menon in two-day police custody till April 18.
They are booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 74 (outraging woman’s modesty),75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (word, gesture, act, or object used with the intention to insult the modesty of a woman).
Nashik TCS Case
The case has rocked the IT industry and called for greater safeguards to protect women from harassment and discrimination. The case first came into light in March, when a woman working at TCS’s Nashik BPO unit filed a complaint alleging that a colleague had maintained a physical relationship with her by promising marriage.
Some of the complainants also alleged that the accused tried to convert them forcibly, and hurt their religious sentiments. Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said that the complaints and allegations emerging from the Nashik office of TCS were “gravely concerning and anguishing", and a thorough investigation was underway under Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian to establish the facts and identify individuals responsible for the situation.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government has ordered the central agencies to investigate the case. He assured that the culprits will not be spared and the government will go to the root of the matter.
