Following a complaint by her son, police registered a case of negligence against Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre.

A 50-year-old contract worker was critically injured at a medical college in Nashik on Monday after her head became trapped in a lift. The woman, identified as Jyoti Shivaji Ahire, was employed in the surgery department.

According to officials, the incident occurred when she leaned into a freight elevator used for transporting surgical equipment. The lift moved suddenly, trapping her head and causing severe injuries.

CCTV footage showed another staff member noticing the incident and raising an alarm, prompting others to rush in for a rescue. Despite their efforts, her head could not be freed immediately, and she remained stuck for several minutes before being rescued.

She was later shifted to the intensive care unit, where she is undergoing treatment. Following a complaint by her son, police registered a case of negligence against Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre.

In its response, the medical college said the equipment involved was not a passenger lift but a hoist trolley used to transport surgical drums. It added that a government electrical engineer inspected the system and found no signs of technical or mechanical failure.

The administration further stated that Ahire had crossed a designated safety line and looked into the trolley’s path without adhering to operational guidelines, leading to the accident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
