The Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Kishor Makwana, on Monday conducted an inquiry into the recent double murder of two brothers belonging to the Scheduled Castes at Avudaiyarkoil in the district.

Mr. Makwana met the bereaved family members at Kamaraj Nagar in Avudaiyarkoil and consoled them. The two brothers — K. Kannan and K. Karthik — were murdered on July 24 near a wedding hall.

As part of his inquiry, Mr. Makwana, accompanied by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Sanmeet Kaur, visited the scene of crime, an official release said. While interacting with the family members of the victims, the team ascertained from them the reasons behind the killings and details about the suspects.

According to the release, Mr. Makwana said action as per law would be initiated against all those behind the killings. The police had put in place security arrangements to prevent any law and order problems in that area.

Mr. Makwana advised the officials concerned to take steps to ensure that such crimes did not take place in future. Pudukottai Collector M. Aruna, Pudukottai Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta, and NCSC Director for Chennai S. Ravivarman accompanied Mr. Makwana.

The Avudaiyarkoil police had arrested eight persons in connection with the double murder. The murders, according to the police, were a result of a dispute over the sale of a used two-wheeler.
