NBA: Cole Anthony Joins Milwaukee Bucks After Buyout with Memphis Grizzlies

Cole Anthony has agreed to a buyout with the Grizzlies and will sign with the Bucks, adding depth to Milwaukee's backcourt following Damian Lillard's departure.

Guard Cole Anthony has reached a buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies and intends to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to an ESPN source.

The 25-year-old guard was traded to Memphis in June as part of the Desmond Bane deal, ending a five-season tenure with the Orlando Magic, where he carved out a role as a reliable scorer off the bench.

In the 2024–25 NBA season, Anthony averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, while shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc. Despite Ja Morant returning from a hip injury, Memphis opted to move on from Anthony, whose $13.1 million cap hit for the upcoming season and club option for 2026–27 may have factored into the decision.

Anthony Brings Scoring Spark to Milwaukee

With the Bucks recently making the bold move to waive Damian Lillard, the team faced a major void at the point guard position. Anthony, known for his ability to heat up quickly off the bench, will add depth and playmaking to Milwaukee’s backcourt.

A former 15th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony has established himself as a “microwave scorer", capable of catching fire in spurts. He has scored 20 or more points in 49 career games.

For Anthony, joining a Bucks roster led by Giannis Antetokounmpo offers a chance to compete for a championship while providing meaningful minutes in the guard rotation.

The move gives Milwaukee a younger, cost-effective backcourt option as they reshape their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
