Recently, forward Gui Santos has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the contract is worth $15 million spread over three years.

In recent weeks, he has consistently and reliably filled in for a number of Warriors stars who have been sidelined by injuries. Charania also cited sources to claim that the agreement with the team spans three years and includes a 2028-2029 player option. He was a valuable player already. Santos has had to assume a new position in an effort to maintain the Warriors in the Western Conference after losing two important starters.

Gui Santos earns long-term trust from Golden State Warriors after breakout stretch

Santos has been a member of the team since the 2022 NBA Draft, when they selected him with the 55th pick. During his rookie season, he alternated between playing for Golden State and the NBA G League's Santa Cruz Warriors. However, he has made a name for himself as a vital part of Steve Kerr's rotation during the last two seasons. Now, he has been extended. The official notice read:“The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Gui Santos to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today. Santos, 23, is averaging career highs of 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 16.0 minutes while hitting career highs of 53.1% from the field and 39.0% from 3-point range in 48 games (13 starts) this season…”It continued:“Santos has scored in double figures in 11 of his last 12 games, averaging 15.0 points on 58.8% from the field and 43.1% from 3-point range, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 28.8 minutes over that span…”

It then concluded:“Over three seasons with Golden State, Santos owns career marks of 4.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 13.6 minutes in 127 games (15 starts). The 6-7 forward saw action in 10 games for the Warriors in the 2025 postseason, averaging 2.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 7.2 minutes per contest. A native of Brazil, Santos was selected with the 55th overall pick by Golden State in the 2022 NBA Draft…”Additionally, as per Shams Charania:“Golden State Warriors forward Gui Santos has signed a three-year, $15 million contract extension with the franchise, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes a player option in 2028-29…”Santos is a versatile player and has taken on more ball-handling responsibilities and played more point-forward since Curry was out.

Gui Santos steps up after injury setback as Golden State Warriors invest in young talents

Before the Warriors' star forward Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending injury in late January, Santos had 11 DNP-CDs this season. This summer, he was going to become a restricted free agent. Now, the Warriors will have one less contractual burden to deal with if they lock him down to a contract extension.Since then, Santos has played a significant amount of time in every game, averaging 13 points on 57.6 percent field goal and 41.7 percent 3-point shooting, along with 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 steals in 26.6 minutes. He had appeared in 56 games during the regular season as a sophomore, starting two of them. He has also made 48 appearances for Kerr's club so far this season, starting 13 of them. He is shooting 39% from outside the arc and 53.1% from the field.
