The Memphis Grizzlies officially signed Jaren Jackson Jr. to a massive $239.9 million contract on Sunday, securing the All-Star forward through the 2029–30 NBA season. The deal was finalized one day after Memphis reached a buyout agreement with guard Cole Anthony, clearing the necessary cap space to make the extension possible.

The extension comes after Jackson renegotiated the final year of his current contract, receiving a significant raise to $33 million for the 2025–26 season. The new deal officially kicks in for 2026–27, beginning at $46.2 million annually.

Although the terms were agreed upon two weeks ago, the Grizzlies had to wait until cap room was created before the contract could be signed. The move underscores Memphis’ long-term commitment to Jackson as a franchise cornerstone.

Jackson, 24, has been one of the league’s premier two-way players. He averaged 22.2 points and 5.6 rebounds over 74 games this past season and earned his second All-Star selection in a Grizzlies uniform.

A dominant presence on defense, Jackson is a three-time All-Defensive Team honoree and was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. Over the course of 407 career games, all with Memphis, he has averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Injury Update

Earlier this month, Jackson underwent surgery to address a turf toe injury in his right foot, sustained during offseason workouts. The team has not provided a specific timetable for his return but said he will be re-evaluated around the start of training camp this fall. Memphis expects him to make a full recovery.

Grizzlies’ Vision: Build Around Jackson and Morant

Locking in Jackson long-term is part of Memphis’ broader strategy to build around its two young stars — Jackson and point guard Ja Morant. The Grizzlies were swept in the first round of the playoffs this past April by the eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, but the franchise remains confident in its core.
