National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has strategically pre-positioned rescue teams across Maharashtra and Goa to ensure faster response to floods, landslides, urban flooding and other rain-related emergencies
Pune: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has strategically pre-positioned rescue teams across Maharashtra and Goa for faster response to floods, landslides, urban flooding and other rain-related emergencies.The 05 Battalion, NDRF, Pune has deployed teams at 12 strategic locations across the two states from July 1 in Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Dharashiv, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Thane, Palghar, Mumbai, Nagpur and North Goa. They will remain stationed at these locations throughout the monsoon season.According to the NDRF, the deployment was carried out in consultation with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Maharashtra, and NDRF Headquarters after assessing geographical vulnerabilities, historical disaster patterns and weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).Commandant Santosh Bahadur Singh said Maharashtra and Goa constitute the primary area of responsibility of the 05 Battalion, and the advance deployment is aimed at significantly reducing response time during emergencies. Faster mobilisation, he said, enables timely rescue, evacuation and relief operations, particularly during incidents such as flash floods, landslides, building collapses and urban flooding.
Each team has been equipped with specialised search and rescue equipment, flood rescue resources, communication systems and trained personnel capable of handling various disaster situations. The teams are also working in close coordination with district administrations, SDMA and other emergency response agencies to ensure seamless operations.The NDRF said it remains fully prepared to respond to natural and man-made disasters, and is committed to safeguarding lives through timely intervention and coordinated action throughout the monsoon season.
