Nearly 100 ducks hacked to death by duo in Nellai
Tirunelveli: Two people hacked nearly 100 ducks to death after the poultry farm owner refused to give them free ducks for meat in Tharuvai area of Tirunelveli district. The two accused have been arrested.Police said Muppidathi, a poultry farm owner from Gopalasamudram, has nearly 1,000 ducks on his farm. On Tuesday morning he found that nearly 100 ducks were hacked to death. He informed police, and they rushed to the spot and started an investigation.A case was registered by Munnirpallam police under sections 296(b) (obscene acts and the utterance of obscene words), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 325 (mischief by killing or maiming any animal) of the BNS, Arms Act, and Sec 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty of Animal Act. Following the investigation, police arrested Maharajan, alias Maya, 24, and Rajesh, 23, of Tharuvai.Preliminary investigation revealed that a dispute between the farm owner and the accused stemmed from a verbal altercation over the farm owner’s refusal to give them ducks free of cost for meat. Enraged over this, the duo went to the farm and hacked the ducks using a sword on Monday night.
