Around 40,000 candidates appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination at 127 centres across Chhattisgarh, including 25 centres in the state capital, Raipur. “The examination was conducted in 19 districts of the state, and the number of candidates who appeared for the test comfortably crossed the 40,000 mark,” an NTA coordinator said.Of the 9,051 candidates registered at the 25 examination centres in Raipur, 8,282 appeared for the test, taking the attendance rate to about 91%, said Laxmi Singh, the coordinator for the examination in Raipur.In Bilaspur district, the examination was conducted at 19 centres. Of the 7,759 registered candidates, 7,044 appeared for the test, while 715 remained absent.A similar attendance pattern was recorded in Bhilai, Durg and Bilaspur, where the largest number of examination centres had been set up.In accordance with the National Testing Agency (NTA) guidelines, candidates were allowed entry only after multiple layers of security screening and document verification.Strict checking was reported at centres across Raipur, Jagdalpur, Durg, Bilaspur and other districts. At one centre in Raipur, a female candidate was asked to change her footwear before being permitted to enter the examination hall.Several candidates said the re-examination had added to their stress and anxiety. At some centres, parents complained about the lack of waiting facilities and were seen standing in the scorching heat outside examination venues.
