During a special drive on Thursday night, the district police searched 1,502 vehicles, registered 19 cases for drinking in the open, 33 drink-and-drive cases and 39 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act across SPSR Nellore district. They also seized three vehicles and collected a fine of nearly about ₹1.5 lakh on a single day.
As per the orders of Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vejendla, special teams were deployed to prevent consumption, storage and sale of ganja, violence, robbery, thefts, road accidents and anti-social activities across the district. As part of maintaining law and order and controlling crime in the district, vehicle inspections were intensified during nights.
Police conducted extensive checks at all junctions, bus stands, railway stations, houses of suspects, shops, highways, entry and exit areas on Thursday from 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. with special teams consisting of 210 officers and staff. The SP has issued orders to intensify surveillance on the activities of history-sheeters.
She directed the teams to take comprehensive measures to eradicate rowdyism and violence, especially in the town limits, by carrying out vehicle inspections at midnight. Police are taking comprehensive measures to enhance security and confidence of the people. The main objective of the police is to ensure that people sleep safely and peacefully.
“Appropriate measures have been taken to prevent open drinking, gambling, ganja peddling, eve teasing, chain snatching, road accidents, thefts and anti-social activities,” the SP said, directing the personnel to exchange information with the inter-district police, stricter checks at the district borders, control of illegal trafficking and comprehensive measures to identify criminals.
