New VC Prof BE Ramgaswamy assumed charge as VC of Davanagere University on Thursday
Davanagere: Prof BE Rangaswamy, a professor of biotechnology at Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology and a noted environmental scientist, assumed charge as the new vice-chancellor of Davangere University on Thursday.
Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot issued the appointment order. Prof K Venkatesh, who was serving as acting vice-chancellor, formally handed over charge. Registrar SB Ganti, examination registrar Prof CK Ramesh and finance officer Prof R Shashidhar were present. Speaking after taking office, Prof Rangaswamy said his priority would be to strengthen academic standards and equip students with skills needed to lead self-reliant and productive lives. He said the university would strive to achieve national and global recognition through sustained academic and institutional progress. Describing Davangere University as academically strong, he said it now required a transformative approach to reach the next level. He stressed that performance and outcomes would matter more than promises. The vice-chancellor said the university would collaborate with local stakeholders, industry leaders and national and international institutions to create better opportunities for students and enhance research and innovation.
