Facilities worth ₹98 crore were inaugurated at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Government Dental College, and the Government College of Nursing, Kozhikode, on Saturday (February 7).
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Veena George said ordinary people were still dependent on government hospitals despite misleading campaigns against them. “The number of primary angioplasty surgeries conducted at the Kozhikode MCH is the best example for this. Over 5,000 cardiological procedures were done here recently. The highest number of cochlear implantation surgeries is also done here,” she said.
Ms. George said when 10 virus research and diagnostic labs were elevated to infectious disease research and diagnostic labs in the country, the lab at the Kozhikode MCH was included on the list. The permission to start postgraduate courses in Nuclear Medicine here was a great achievement. Efforts would be taken to launch a ‘Skin Bank’ here on the lines of the facility at the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, she added.
