A day after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s chief of staff Morgan McSweeney resigned over Jeffrey Epstein links, British director of communications Tim Allan and Norway ambassador Mona Juul have stepped down.

“I have decided to stand down to allow a new No10 team to be built. I wish the PM and his team every success," Allan said in a statement on Monday.

He served as an adviser to Tony Blair from 1992 to 1998 and found and lead one of the country’s foremost public affairs consultancies in 2001. In September 2025, he was appointed executive director of communications at Downing Street.

According to Reuters, the loss of two top aides – Tim Allan and Morgan McSweeney – in quick succession comes as Starmer tries to draw a line under the crisis in his government resulting from his appointment of Mandelson as ambassador to the US.

Norwegian Envoy Resigns

Norway’s foreign ministry has announced that its ambassador Mona Juul would step down due to a “serious failure of judgement" over ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this week, the ministry had suspended her from the post of ambassador to Jordon and Iraq pending an internal inquiry of links to Epstein found in a files released by the United States government.

She had previously served as ambassador to Israel, Britain and at the United Nations.

“Juul’s contact with convicted sex offender Epstein has shown a serious failure of judgment. The case makes it difficult to rebuild the trust that the role requires," Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.

Reuters quoted Juul’s lawyer Thomas Skjelbred saying in a statement, “Mona Juul will continue to cooperate fully with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help ensure that all relevant facts in the matter come to light."

The ministry has also said that a review has been initiated on its former grants to the International Peace Institute (IPI), a New York think tank headed by Juul’s husband Terje Roed-Larsen until 2020.

Jeffrey Epstein, who died of suicide in 2019 in Manhattan jail while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. So far, names of several leaders, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, younger brother of King Charles, have been revealed. In October last year, King Charles stripped Andrew of his title of prince.

The latest files revealed correspondence between Norway’s crown princess, Mette-Marit, 52, and Epstein after he was found guilty in 2008 of soliciting prostitution from an underage girl. According to Reuters, her name appears hundreds of times and, in 2012, she called Epstein “sweetheart," “soft hearted" and “very charming".
