New Metropolitan for Jacobite church

Kochi: Catholicos Baselios Mor Joseph consecrated Mor Gregorios Gabriel Metropolitan as a Metropolitan for the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church on Tuesday.Mor Gregorios Gabriel Metropolitan was consecrated as the Metropolitan for the Muvattupuzha region under the Angamaly diocese.

Incidentally, Puthencruz witnessed the very first Metropolitan consecration ceremony led by Catholicos Baselios Joseph after his enthronement.

Metropolitans of the church served as co-celebrants.The consecration service, which began with morning prayers at 7am at St Athanasius Cathedral in the Patriarchal Centre, Puthencruz, concluded at noon.The consecration service took place during the Holy Eucharist, which commenced with the Catholicos as the chief celebrant.The consecration ceremony began with the Geevarghese Mor Athanasius Metropolitan reading the patriarchal bull (decree) from the Patriarch of Antioch Ignatius Aphrem II, approving the Metropolitan-designate.
