The construction of a six-storey building at the Cherthala taluk hospital is making progress.
According to officials, around 70% of the work has been completed. The new facility is being built at a cost of ₹84 crore, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
Once completed, the building will house outpatient services, inpatient wards, four operation theatres, three intensive care units with a total of 30 beds, and departments including general surgery, orthopaedics, general medicine, ophthalmology, ENT, paediatrics, anaesthesiology, dentistry, and dermatology. The building will also house auxiliary services such as laboratories, X-ray units, and a pharmacy.
“The construction work, which began in 2022, is now in its final stages. Structural works have been completed, with only finishing tasks such as painting remaining. A solar panel system is also being installed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the hospital. We aim to complete all remaining work at the earliest and inaugurate the building by September,” said an official.
The Cherthala taluk hospital, a crucial health-care facility for residents of the Cherthala and Aroor Assembly constituencies, treats over 1,200 patients daily. On average, it handles around 300 casualty cases, 100 inpatient admissions, and about 60 surgeries, both minor and major, each day. The decision to construct the new building was part of efforts to improve infrastructure and provide better facilities to patients.
