New Telangana BJP president likely on July 1

The new State BJP president is likely to be announced on July 1 with the notification issued on June 29 for the election process.

Union Minister of State for Ministry of Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje will arrive in Hyderabad on June 30 to oversee the election process. Receipt and scrutiny of the nominations will be held on Monday.

Sources said the party high command will send the name of its choice and the election is likely to be unopposed since the party’s decision is respected by the aspirants. Several top leaders have shown keen interest in taking over reins from the current president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.

The names floating around are Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay and Parliment members Arvind Dharmapuri and Eatala Rajender. Former MLC N Ramchander Rao is another senior leader eyeing the post given his seniority and loyalty.

The change in leadership comes at a crucial juncture when the local body elections are round the corner and the BJP with 8 MPs is emerging as a strong force. The party national leadership is reportedly looking at a man with strong party roots and preferably from backward classes.
