Malik Nabers, the standout wide receiver for the New York Giants, exited practice on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 with an apparent shoulder issue. He looked hurt during one of the team’s run‑play drills at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Malik Nabers, who walked off under his own power before walking back inside with head athletic trainer Ronnie Barnes, did not return to practice. This raised concern because he is already managing a persistent toe injury that originated in college. The timing is unsettling: Malik Nabers is crucial to the New York Giants’ on‑field plans as they prepare for the new NFL season.
What exactly happened to Malik Nabers’ shoulder and who witnessed the incident on the field
During the 11‑on‑11 team session on Tuesday morning, July 29 at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, Malik Nabers was blocking on a run play when he went to the ground and appeared to grab at his right shoulder.
He lay briefly on the field, then stood up and left the field with the head trainer Ronnie Barnes walking alongside him. That move captured the attention of reporters on site including Jordan Raanan, who noted Nabers had been “banged up on a run play… grabbed at his shoulder as he walked off”. Head coach Brian Daboll was informed by Barnes, and Nabers did not return to the field for the rest of practice.
Toe issue adds to injury concerns for Giants’ top rookie Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers is coming off a record-setting rookie season in 2024, when he caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl honors and setting both Giants and NFL rookie receiving marks.
Entering the 2025 season, he was recovering from a lingering toe injury that sidelined him during OTAs but allowed full participation in camp starting July 23, according to coach Brian Daboll. Now, this new shoulder scare adds a fresh concern. Malik Nabers reportedly had previous shoulder issues in college, though he played through them without missing time. With the Giants’ Week 1 opener not until September 7, there is time to assess, but any setback with their top receiver would be unwelcome. On Monday, July 28, Nabers spoke about his toe issue (originating during his LSU days):Now, as of Tuesday, July 29, he adds a shoulder injury to that ongoing concern, one to monitor closely as training camp continues.
